1969 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 2 RHD OTS (GARAGE FIND)
SOLD
The phrase "barn find" is circulated around the E-Type industry with visions of a dilapidated wooden door being prised open to unveil a dust encrusted diamond in the rough. Rescuing a piece of British motoring history from years of stillness and giving it a new lease of life is a mission we whole heartedly accept. So in true Time Team fashion we hot footed it to South London to dig a very sad looking original RHD 1969 Series 2 OTS out of its rubbish filled grave.
Barely able to be rolled out of the garage, and submerged under years of heavy rubbish, the team first had to clear a pathway in order for them to drag it out using a winch on to the trailer. After pumping up the dry and perished tyres the guys were at a slight advantage in getting the car out and eventually their efforts paid off. Once outside we could finally start the post-mortem and fill in the gaps leading up to its demise.
The story goes the gentleman that the car belonged to took it to have a straight forward service in 1976 but returned to the garage only an hour after delivery to discover that the mechanics had started dismantling it to steal it. Horrified and utterly devastated by the whole experience, the owner eventually reclaimed what was rightfully his but instead of assembling the car back together, simply took the "out of sight out of mind" approach and locked it away never to be enjoyed again. Finally after 40 years in solitary confinement, the owners daughter approached us via the E-Type Forum asking for advice on the car following her fathers death.
Now safely tucked away in our restoration room from any further decay, we can finally see how complete the car is. The main major components are all present and correct including the bonnet, boot lid, engine and gearbox along with its original diff, and the front suspension still bears the original shocks with factory fitted steering rack gaiters.
This car is available for purchase in its current condition and would be ideal for a complete nose to tail restoration project.
