The final run has been reached and now that the hood has been fitted, we can finish off the door trims. All in place now and looking good (although I think the owner will want us to fit a pair of red door arm rests!). The upgrade for the headlights is going ahead with the relays being fitted into the LHS bonnet diaphragm. The radiator sheild is now in place (lots of work just on this as it has to be stripped, the frame painted in the correct Grey and the mesh in silver. Then re-assembled with new screws, washers and seal at the top). Next week sees the test miles being put on.

The trim is coming together nicely and the electrically heated, upgraded seats are now wired in and fitted. Takes a bit of shimming in order to get the sliders to work properly but it is worth the effort. The upgraded alternator has been fitted and we needed a non AC set of pulleys for the water pump. Leon has now finished the prep work for the covered in headlight upgrade for the RHS. Next week should see the job complete.

We like to run the wiring for the washer bottle inside the bulkhead as it looks much neater than original. The dashboards are in and things like the choke and heater controls connected. The devil is always in the detail and you can see the hoses strapped in place onto the engine frames.

We also have the radiator, brake lines, clutch lines and vacuum pipes installed (must remember to speak to Murray to get photos of the work completed!!!).

We have moved this project on a lot this week with the rear axle nearly fitted (the new cage mounts are causing issues) but we will sort them out in due course. The detailed photos show the build in progress. The fuel tank had some local corrosion so we welded in a new patch. The process was photographed so you can see what goes into such a repair.

We now have the body shell back from the blasters. A really solid looking tub so much relief all round! The bonnet under tray shows some perforations in the flanges (this is because the factory bolted the bonnet panels together without any paint in between the flanges and if any moisture got in, they rotted very quickly.
The floors need minimal work with the only panel to be replaced the LHS footwell. The bootfloor is solid along with the doors.

Busy last couple of days stripping heavy components. We started by removing the engine and gearbox last Thursday and having split the gearbox from the engine, delivered it to the engine rebuilders. Next job was to take the engine frames off the car and continue stripping down the tub. Saturday saw Stephen getting to grips with removing the rear wheels, prop shaft and handbrake cable ready for Murray and I to crack on with the rear suspension removal today.
The one area of concern for us was getting the front radius arm mounts detached from the car. A little bit of heat soon sorted out that and they both popped off beautifully. With the tub now stripped, a quick call to a chum with a flat bed trailer and a forklift, saw us moving all these major components up to the new workshop where we have to wait for the paintshop to make some space. Now the strip down is complete, we can look at getting some of the smaller jobs completed on various customer cars.

Now on the ramp and the front suspension is being stripped. The anti roll bar, stub axles and upper wishbones have all been removed and will be sent away to start the restoration process.
We were baffled to see that someone had written on the underneath of the engine 'No Oil'. Hmmmm, when would that be seen then!
The fuel tank was drained and the sump removed. Note the amount of crud that had accumulated over the years. No problem though as the tank will be taken over for dipping, powder coating and finally re-sealing with POR.

Look closely at the detail in photo 2 and you will see a key. That is where the factory placed the spare key when they delivered a car. The dealership remove it and give it to the customer. In this case, it was clearly overlooked. Good thing too in this case though, it was the wrong key! The factory got out of sync somehow and this key is one number later than the one that fits the ignition.

Dashboards stripped out. Interesting to note that there is a piece of U shaped plastic trim affixed to the body near to where the Headlight Dip Switch wiring runs. This is very close and the factory obviously decided that the wires could chafe against the body. Never seen this before!

The strip down continues and it is good to see that all the brass washers are intact on the hoodframe. The rear tub is in good condition and we now know the extent of the rust. Just a small patch in the rear floor, a new LHS footwell will be required, new RHS sill and a small amount of rust in the LHS front wing. Thankfully, nothing too serious.
